Hi there and welcome to another episode of the Root Cause Clinic
podcast. I hope you're taking care of yourself this winter and doing things to
embrace your winter health arc. For me,
that looks like Epsom salt baths every evening,
red light therapy, sauna, and Pilates or yoga pretty much daily.
Also, plenty of warm, nourishing foods like herbal tea,
bone broth, and homemade soups.
I am a big proponent of changing your nutrition and habits with
the seasons. Especially as women,
we are sick. And cyclical beings who aren't meant to do the same exact
thing 365 days of the year.
Lean into what feels good during these darker months,
and remember, you don't have to force yourself to be productive during a time
that's traditionally meant for rest and turning inwards.
Alright. Jumping into your questions for this week.
The first was, can you touch on cell salts and their potential benefits for
fertility? So cell salts,
also known as tissue salts, are natural remedies made from minerals that are found
in the body. They are based on the principles of homeopathy.
Cell salts are traditionally used to help balance the body's mineral levels and support
cellular function. In terms of fertility,
cell salts can address specific reproductive health issues like irregular menstrual
cycles, poor egg quality,
or obesity. weak uterine health. But a disclaimer with cell salts,
be careful not to treat them as a cure-all.
Can they help with fertility? Yes,
but there are a million supplements that can help with fertility in a million
different ways, so it's easy to make this claim about a lot of different
herbs. Cell salts usually aren't going to make a huge difference in your symptoms
or health because they're so gentle.
The cases I use cell salts is usually with clients who are so
sensitive they can't tolerate any form of detox support or stress relief.
They're stronger minerals just yet. Because cell salts are a kind of
homeopathic support, they are very,
very gentle for people who are still really sensitive.
However, on the same note, oftentimes people rely too heavily on homeopathics
and because of the those of that, they never hit those deeper levels of
detox that are necessary to fully heal.
So, there's always a balance there that we have to find.
And there's a time and a place for gentler supplements like this,
but not everyone needs them honestly.
But, if you're interested, I will link my favorite cell assaults in the notes
below. Okay, your next question was,
do you recommend any brands for water filters,
like for kitchen, bath, and shower- Yes,
I do have some recommendations for these.
I will also link everything below in the notes.
For filtering your kitchen water, I recommend the Aqua-Tru Reverse Osmosis
Systems, which have either a countertop option, uuuh, or an under-sync mount option.
For a cheaper picture option, I also like the Therisage picture.
For a bath filter, I like the Crystal Quest filter,
which hangs below the bath faucet and filters the water before it fills the
bath. And then, for the shower, I uuuh,
uuuh, I'm gonna use and recommend the pristine Hydro Shower Filter.
It's one of the pricier ones out there, but it's definitely the best on
the market and it lasts a really long time.
Okay, next question was,
what's your take on natural materials for clothing for,
versus synthetic? I hear certain fabrics can be toxic due to microplastics,
especially when mixed with heat and sweat-like workout clothes.
This is a great question, and I think that's an important one to address
when it- it comes to detoxing the body as a whole.
It's true that nowadays we're exposed to microplastics everywhere,
including via our clothing. It's always going to be best to opt for natural
clothing materials like cotton, linen,
wool, and hemp. on the other hand,
I think some people take it way too far with this issue.
Yes, synthetic materials can cause stress to the body,
but that is such a tiny amount of toxin exposure compared to our food,
water, medications, body care products,
etc. et cetera, So, I'd much rather you focus on those things first.
A lot of clients come to me having replaced all their clothing,
everything in their environment, but they still have literal pounds of parasites in their
gut, or 20 years worth of heavy metals in their tissues.
So, in these case- this is they're kind of missing the forest for the
trees. We want to think big picture first,
work through the biggest stressors your body is facing,
then slowly over time hone in on smaller stressors like this. This is
also where social media becomes a problem.
Because it encourages people to focus on smaller issues and completely ignore
the larger issues at hand. So,
long story short, if it's in your budget, yes,
try and switch to more natural materials.
But, I myself still wear yoga pants and leggings that aren't the best quality
materials. Like I always say,
balance is key. Okay,
the next topic suggestion was essentials for hormone balancing.
When it comes to balancing hormones, there are three- essential pillars we want to
focus on. And those are increasing nourishment,
decreasing toxin load, and creating emotional safety.
By increasing nourishment, I mean focusing on a whole foods ancestral.
Diet with plenty of bioavailable minerals.
And definitely a huge emphasis on protein as well.
Getting a bare minimum of 100 grams of protein per day is essential
for female hormone balance. Choosing whole foods instead of processed.
Cutting out processed sugars and in wo- Choosing
whole foods instead of processed. Cutting out processed sugars.
And avoiding inflammatory foods to the best of your ability is important,
too. Thank The next pillar is decreasing toxin load,
which honestly is what 99% of women are missing when they try to balance
their hormones. It's very important to decongest the liver with herbal support
and drainage supports like castor oil packs or coffee enemas.
And to- take your time doing it. Almost every woman I've ever worked with
in the history of my practice has a sluggish liver that's contributing to their
hormone imbalances. The liver is essential for detoxing excess estrogen,
breaking down cortisol after it's been used,
and conjugating thyroid I'm going to hormone.
So if you're seeing any imbalances here,
it's crucial to look at liver function first.
Aside from that, toxins like heavy metals bind to the endocrine glands in the
body as well as the uterus, and parasites create stress in the gut and
consume vital nutrients. nutrient. So really every
pathogen, toxin, or chemical in excess will negatively impact your
hormones in one way or another. So it's absolutely essential to detox
your body for hormone health. Lastly,
I mentioned the importance of creating stuff.
Lastly, I mentioned the importance of creating emotional safety for hormone
health, which I also think is commonly overlooked.
Trauma responses often originating from childhood keep us locked in a state of
chronic fight or flight, which causes our adrenals to work on overload to pump
out cortisol. If our body is constantly pushing itself to release cortisol,
it's going to shut down sex hormone production,
and we're going to see progesterone levels plummet.
I always say, your body doesn't want to make a baby if it thinks
it's being chased by a bear. And physiologically,
your body doesn't know the difference between a stressful job,
or being chased by a bear every single day.
Also, keep in mind that all three of these pillars take time to fully
address and balance out time and consistency.
And we live- in a culture where everyone expects immediate results.
So you have to reframe your way of thinking and understand that your hormones
didn't become chronically imbalanced overnight.
They aren't going to heal overnight either. For example,
six years ago, my adrenals were in complete shutdown and I- was told I
had the hormone profile of a 90 year old woman.
And even though my hormones are in a much better place now,
I'm still working to undo some of the damage that was done.
So look for progress here, not perfection.
There is no- no quick fix or magic pill when it comes to hormone
healing, even though social media will try to convince you otherwise.
Become okay with the slowness and know that slow consistent progress
is so much better than a quick fix at the end of the day.
Alright, that was all- of the topics for this week.
Let me know your thoughts or questions as you listen,
and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Bye-bye.
